Reduce your office clutter and turn your trash into treasure by participating in Cartridges 4 Canines, a fundraising initiative to benefit Susquehanna Service Dogs.  The Keystone Partnership is partnering with Harrisburg Copiers to coordinate this used ink and toner cartridge collection, which channels environmental awareness to generate financial support for the significant services provided by Susquehanna Service Dogs.  Through Cartridges 4 Canines, your recycled ink cartridges can yield a treasured gift of service and companionship for an adult or child with disabilities.

Responsible stewardship of resources is a guiding principle at Keystone, from our distribution of training and services to our conscientious use of physical supplies.  Fortunately, more businesses, organizations and individuals than ever before are discovering innovative ways to conserve, reuse and recycle materials and products.  Almost 300 million ink cartridges are thrown away each year, adding about 40 million pounds of unnecessary trash to landfills all over the world.  Recycling these cartridges not only decreases waste accumulation but also conserves manufacturing energy.  Cartridges can be reused four to seven times, and remanufactured printer cartridges provide the same quality and page output as new cartridges.

Cartridges 4 Canines is currently accepting the following cartridge models:  Brother, Canon, Dell, HP, Lexmark, Minolta, Panasonic, Pitney Bowes, NEC, Okidata, QMS, Ricoh, Samsung, Sharp, Xerox and Toshiba.  Contact your tax adviser for potential tax advantages.

Susquehanna Service Dogs is an initiative wholly supported by community donations.  About $19,000 is required to breed, raise and train each service dog, and therapy dogs can cost approximately $75 an hour to provide.  Often, the people who could benefit greatly from service or therapy dog assistance cannot afford the initial placement fee of $5,000.  Learn more about the programs of Susquehanna Service Dogs. By helping SSD and Keystone raise these funds, you and your company are ensuring that the valuable services provided by these skilled canine companions can continue.

Individuals and companies in Central Pennsylvania can participate by registering here or by calling Keystone Partnership at 1-888-377-6504 or Harrisburg Copiers at 1-800-564-7002.  Keystone will provide an on-site receptacle for your used cartridges that will be collected regularly and shipped to a recycling center, generating financial support for Susquehanna Service Dogs.  Companies can arrange for regular collection of used inkjet and toner cartridges by Harrisburg Copiers or other Keystone volunteers, and Harrisburg Copiers also welcomes calls at 1-800-564-7002 for unscheduled pick-ups.

Cartridges can also be dropped off at any Keystone office.  Cartridges 4 Canines posters and flyers are available by calling Harrisburg Copiers at 1-800-564-7002 or Keystone at 1-888-377-6504, or by email at amoffitt @ keystone human services.org.
